hautnah.

TW: The following images contain nudity.

This series originated in a class I took at my university. It deals with body image and (the breakage of) social norms. If nudity or sexual activity is a trigger to you, please don´t continue further.

hautnah.

imagine an ordinary child. they run around naked in the garden, at the pool, everywhere, without worrying whether they have a few pounds "too much" on the ribs, or skin disorders or crooked feet. they can simply be and are not bothered by the looks of strangers.

imagine an adolescent standing in the corner in gym class, feeling uncomfortable because they feel judged by the looks of others. they feel ashamed for their skin blemishes because the others say that one is unhygienic or dirty. and for their wider thighs because the others look completely different from oneself. and for their body hair because everyone else has less of it. and for countless other things.

in my photographic work i show that these "flaws" make us beautiful, interesting and special, and that there is beauty in every flaw. Social media conveys so many different ideas of perfection that it is already impossible to conform to the ideal of beauty.

why should i be ashamed of my body? i like to be different and i am proud of everything that is considered a flaw. it makes me unique and beautiful. it sets me apart, it is significant for my person, it defines me and my path and everything i have gone through.

this body is given to us and it is our task to learn to love it. the goal should not be to fit into a pattern or to please others, but to be happy with oneself.

every body is beautiful and individual because of its peculiarities, which are seen as flaws in society, and tells its own story. what is yours?
